EU-GUARDIAN – European framework and proofs-of-concept for the intelliGent aUtomAtion of cybeR Defence Incident mAnagemeNt.

EU-GUARDIAN

Concept and approach

EU-GUARDIAN is motivated to explore and lay the foundations for prompting the EU autonomy in the development/capacitation of AI-based resources.
EU-GUARDIAN project will settle early grounds for develop Cyber Mosaic Warfare concepts and applications and create EU Cyber Mosaic warfare capabilities.

Mosaic warfare concept seeks to exploit Artificial Intelligence (AI) combined with Automation to implement decision centre operations. The Future Decision-centric warfare means improved efficiency, greater adaptability for commanders, easier incorporation of new technologies and tactics, higher complexity of the adversary, improved implementation of operational strategy and faster operational tempo.

The EU-GUARDIAN proposal mainly arose from the lessons learned from the early findings of two precedent projects: ECYSAP and CYBER4DE, which despite being at early stages have pointed out significant gaps concerning the adoption of Automation and AI on the capabilities they develop, propagated in challenges and opportunities extendible to out of their scope cyber defence needs.

Divide et Impera: Metacognition and Layered Automation for cyber response:
The EU-GUARDIAN embraces challenges associated to the inclusion of automaticity in the battle rhythm by relying on the Divide and Conquer (Lat. Divide et Impera) paradigm, which addresses complex problems by gaining and maintaining AI-enabled power by breaking up larger concentrations of power into pieces.
